Author Marilyn Higgins to speak at Oswego Public Library

OSWEGO — Local author Marilyn Higgins will visit the Oswego Public Library May 10 at 2 p.m. to discuss her debut novel, “Dreams of Freedom.”

Set along the Erie Canal in the turbulent years before the Civil War, “Dreams of Freedom” follows a 20-year-old Irish immigrant caught in the rising waves of violence. Blending history and mystery, the novel captures the spirit of upstate New York during a pivotal era in American history.

Higgins, a former chief economic development officer at National Grid and Syracuse University, has long been dedicated to preserving and celebrating the Erie Canal’s legacy. Her years of volunteer work at the Erie Canal National Heritage Corridor inspired the story.

Signed copies of “Dreams of Freedom” will be available for purchase. Sign-ups for summer reading begin the last week of June. Readers of all ages are invited to embark on a journey of art and creativity, celebrating all the ways in which art enriches our lives. For every book you read, receive a raffle entry for a chance to win prizes.

The Oswego Public Library offers ways to connect, learn, and explore through a diverse collection of books, digital resources, and engaging programs. To find out more about the programs and services offered, visit https://oswegopubliclibrary.org/services/.
